#1 English Presentation

This is an English version of the content on the main page of #tattooinzine

We don't know the origin for sure, but tattoos have possibly been present in the most diverse cultures around the world since the dawn of humanity. Sometimes as a means of identification, as a rite of passage or celebration, or as an expression of who we really are, whatever the case may be, it is much more than an art, but a practice and a culture. Tattooing became popular in Europe and was given its name by the English explorer James Cook, who described the technique he met in Polynesia as "tattaw."  After many ups and downs, it became popular from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. The rest is history... The tattoo is one of society's most interesting mysteries; after all, where did it begin? How was it done? What were their motivations? Over time, the answers to these and many other questions have changed.

#Tattoozine is a small way of sharing knowledge and curiosities about tattoo culture.
